Welcome!

The Brain and Cognition Research Center in Toulouse (CerCo), is a research unit that was created by the CNRS and the Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse 3) in 1993 by a handful of scientists from Paris and Marseille under the direction of Michel Imbert.
In 2013, the CerCo will be celebrating its 20th anniversary!
Today, 35 scientists and technical staff together with a similar number of PhD and post-doctoral students work at the CerCo. On this special occasion, the CerCo is organizing a very special international meeting on the 4th and 5th of July 2013. Guests and speakers will include founders and collaborators that have played a major role in the development of CerCo, with a very special emphasis on all the students that have obtained their PhD in the CerCo and have since pursued careers in academia or industry, either abroad or in France outside the CerCo. The responses from former students have been enthusiastic and will allow us to hear talks from people who have gone on to become University Lecturers, Professors or Researchers in Canada (Waterloo University, Montréal University), in the USA (California University, University of Pittsburgh), in the UK (University of Glasgow) as well as in France (Gif sur Yvette, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Toulouse, Tours). We will also hear from people who have pursued careers in industry (e.g. Aldebaran Robotics-Boston, Spikenet Technology).

Program

The conference

The conference will take place in the new building hosting the CerCo, the "Pavillon Baudot" located in Purpan Hospital. The conference is open to all CerCo members, and all members of the Toulouse Institut of Brain Sciences together with guests from CNRS, INSERM and Toulouse University.

About twenty short presentations will be given grouped into four main themes :

  • Cognition, aging, handicap
  • Models in Cognition
  • Fundamental research in Cognition : industrial applications
  • Perception, cognition, motricity

We are also fortunate to have with us four prestigious speakers, that have either played a very important role in the history of the CerCo (Michel Imbert, Jean-Luc Nespoulous) or whose internationally recognised research is close to the scientific topics developed in the CerCo: Laurent Cohen (professor at the Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris) and Kia Nobre (Professor at Oxford University).

A 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner will take place on the Friday evening in the centre of Toulouse, on the banks of the "Garonne", in the prestigious "salle des Colonnes" of the
Hôtel Dieu Saint-Jacques, classified as a Historical Monument.
